Some newer Loop Work models have protection ratings, so if you're considering them for a job site, check the specific package for an NRR. Otherwise, don't put them in a hearing conservation program.
Wait—I'm not saying Loop earplugs are bad. I wear them on airplanes. I'm saying they solve a different problem. For a worksite hearing conservation program, you need a protector with a labeled NRR that a compliance officer can verify. If the hazard is a 95 dB grinder running all day, you need a protector that reduces that to an acceptable level. Data. Not vibes.
My recommendation: If you're buying for a crew, choose Honeywell earmuffs or an earplug with a labeled NRR, and keep a box as backup. Long latex gloves are longer than standard disposable gloves. Some go to the wrist, some to mid-forearm, some to the elbow. When to Pay for Certainty
In March 2024, we needed 30 Honeywell earmuffs at a plant 300 miles away before a corporate safety audit. The supplier had them on a truck, but the quoted delivery time said "estimated." We paid $180 extra for a guaranteed delivery window. An hour later, we found out the estimate would have missed the audit by two days. - If your team handles liquid splashes above the wrist, pick Honeywell long latex gloves—but confirm the cuff length and the chemical chart. If the liquid is oil-based, buy a nitrile or other compatible material in the necessary length.
- If you need welding protection on a site with overhead hazards, use a Miller welding helmet that's hard-hat compatible, or a Honeywell hard hat with a flip-up welding visor. Match the system to all hazards, not just the bright arc.
And if you're up against a deadline, pay for the shipping that comes with a commitment. At least, that's been my experience after nearly a decade of buying and rejecting PPE. The best purchase isn't always the one with the lowest price. It's the one that keeps people safe, passes the audit, and actually gets worn.
